The esoteric version of the
Greek legend of Prometheus tells the story of how Prometheus molded man in clay
by order of Zeus, farther of the gods and also god of lightning. The esoteric teachings
see Prometheus as an energy of creation and not as a man as such. The meaning of
Prometheus is; he who sees before- in other words someone who has the gift of
foresight, the gift of having knowledge of something before it happens, the
gift of creativity. Prometheus represents the creative light of man.
To begin with man was creature that could not reproduce, this is why Prometheus steels the sacred fire
from the Gods and give it to man, who then become a sexual creature with the
ability to create. Prometheus steels fire by keeping it in a hollow a stalk of
fennel, like a reed, and in this image lies the symbolism of the spinal column.
Man is given fire by the energy of Prometheus itself who enters through the
fennel stalk, the spinal column of man, to deliver the sacred fire of God, the
sacred fire which is the creative fire gives us the power of procreation along
with the power of knowledge of the divine and the means of creating through
those divine powers. Thus by fire the
human journey as a sexual creature began, as well as, the journey of creative knowledge, manifesting knowledge.
Fire, therefore, also holds to us a promise; a promise of foresight, a promise of
wholeness and a promise of continuation.
